Grinding Products

FLSmidth is your One Source for grinding products and systems. Since 1902, we have supplied over 2,500 mills, and many of the largest plants operating today use our world-renowned SAG and ball mills, both gearless and gear driven, and in some of the most extreme environments. Our understanding of the mining, industrial minerals, and power industries has resulted in a complete line of grinding mills and systems for wet and dry processing of metallic and non-metallic materials.

Ball Mills
FLSmidth Minerals experience with ball mills dates back to 1903 and includes gold, copper, platinum, nickel, lead, zinc, iron ore, and limestone applications. Today we have supplied well over 3,000 mills.
Our product line includes Fuller-Traylor mills, the most robust design in the industry with installations through 27' in diameter. These heavy-duty mills feature hydrostatic lubrication with either geared or gearless drive arrangements. Fuller-Traylor ball mills have been manufactured in both trunnion and shell-supported arrangements.
We also offer a more cost effective mill line called the FT Series mills. These mills range in size from 1.6m (5') through 4.3m (14.1') in diameter with a standard size matrix available. The FT Series mills are gear driven and feature hydrodynamic lubrication. These smaller mills are well suited for use in flue gas desulfurization (FGD) projects.

SAG / AG Mills
Since the early 1980s FLSmidth Minerals has been designing and manufacturing both semi-autogenous (SAG) and autogenous (AG) grinding mills under the Fuller-Traylor brand.
Fuller-Traylor SAG/AG mills range in size from 18' through 40' in diameter with powers as high as 30,000 hp. They feature hydrostatic lubrication and can accommodate either a geared or gearless drive arrangement and are typically grate discharge and use metal liners.

Rod Mills
FLSmidth Minerals rod mills create a coarser product than do ball mills and typically operate at a slower mill speed. Rod mills can be either wet or dry designs. Dry applications feature a peripheral discharge or an air-swept arrangement.
Designs extend to 15' x 22' (21' effective). The mill length is limited by manufacturing constraints for the grinding rods Length-to-diameter ratios should be kept above 1.4 to prevent rod entanglement.

Gears
FLSmidth Minerals Gear Engineering has more than 100 years of gear design experience allowing us to offer many different options to our customers for both new machines as well as replacement gears to update machines.
Girth Gear designs include flange and spring mounted gears manufactured using cast steel, ductile iron, and fabricated gears in straight and helical cuts to match the customer’s budget and timeframe.
The material for the gear set will vary depending on the application from a normalized carbon steel to a quench and tempered high alloy steel to carburized case hardened teeth which are considered to optimize strength and durability rating of the gear set thus allowing us to offer more cost effective gear set to our customers.

Limestone Preparation Systems
At the core of any flue gas desulfurization (FGD) reagent preparation system is a mill and classifier. FLSmidth is your One Source for the design and supply of limestone grinding systems for FGD applications in the power industry.
We understand that an optimized mill and classifier circuit puts money back into a power plant's profits. Therefore, our systems are specifically sized to maximize plant efficiency through optimum limestone capacity and product fineness. In addition, low maintenance designs result in effective resource utilization.
Sold under the Traylor-Fuller brand, the FT Series ball mills are well suited for FGD system applications. In conjunction with our proven Krebs Hydrocyclones and slurry pumps, our single source systems deliver "on-spec" product to the scrubber.
Look to us also for such additional products as limestone day storage silos, weigh feeders, crushers, discharge recycle tanks with agitators, recycle pumps, valves, and instrumentation/control systems. On a larger scale, we also provide complete plant design including material handling systems, piping systems, and building designs.
In addition to the wet circuits, FLSmidth Minerals is experienced in dry limestone sorbent preparation systems. These systems typically make use of a rod mill in closed circuit with a vibrating screen to produce a controlled limestone product specification for direct boiler injection.

Mill Performance Enhancements
Performance Enhancement Technologies (PETS) For Grinding Mills

FLSmidth Minerals has been aware that more precise data has been required in the design and process areas, to lead the industry into a better understanding of what occurs inside of a grinding mill, and how the circuit is affected by ore conditions, ball charge loading, circulating loads, liner designs as well as to assist in the operational performance of the equipment. To enhance our understanding of large grinding circuits FLSmidth Minerals embarked on substantial research and development work in 1999, and this investment has resulted in a range of new instruments, controls and services that form the beginning of our Performance Enhancement Technology Suite (PETS) of offerings for grinding mills.
All of these products and services originate from the FLSmidth Minerals operation group’s need for a more effective means of controlling and maintaining large grinding mills and systems, but have also been developed in conjunction with plant operators.
