Comau-AIMS is a dynamic engineering company represented by AIMS Corporation in South African.
From its roots in the South African motor industry, AIMS Corporation has grown from a small organization operating within the local industry to one recognized around the world as a major player in assembly line design, manufacture and implementation.
Comau is an Italian company owned by the Fiat Motor Corporation.
AIMS Corporation, which formed a part of this group, has been involved in the local and international markets for the past 13 years as an independent company.
We employ approximately 250 permanent and 200 contract employees who operate from 2 plants in Uitenhage and one in Cape Town.
Although our core business is Automotive related, we recognized the need to diversify into other industries to offset the effect of global market instability.
As a result, being a project company that specializes in multi-disciplined turnkey projects, we have over the past 5 years successfully applied our experience in widely diversified fields, from process related projects to packaging, materials handling, mining applications, explosive manufacture etc.
Our in-house expertise includes structural engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical/electronic engineering, and hydraulics, pneumatics, SCADA and PLC systems as well as process and machine design.
Our high precision engineering center in Cape Town, know as Quad Precision Engineering, are well known in the aircraft industry where they formed an integral part of the engineering team on the Rooi Falk helicopter project by Denel Aviation.
More recently, Both Quad and Comau AIMS are engaged with Denel Aviation in producing certain wing components for the Gripen fighter aircraft purchased by the South African Defense Force from British Aerospace as part of the Government’s arms procurement initiative.
Within the AIMS Group we hold a number of agencies and have formed strategic alliances with certain industry leaders.
We are the national agents for Kawasaki industrial robots of which we have sold over 250 worldwide. We offer full service and support for this product, which is a very reliable and flexible solution in most applications.
With our acquisition by Comau, we now represent the Comau robot range, which is extensive, and cover many customized applications.
In addition, we have the capability to program or integrate; any make of industrial robot, based on our experience with robotic systems design over the years.
We are the official agents for Jervis B Webb Worldwide Company of Detroit in the USA.
They are reputed to be the biggest materials handling company worldwide and offer as standard products conveying systems to suit most applications.
We are also agents for Warner Electrical who are suppliers of a wide range of linear actuators and servo drive systems and overhead transfer mechanisms.
What we offer as an advantage over our competitors, is the ability of taking projects from conceptual stage right through design, manufacture, installation and final commissioning under full project management control, anywhere in the world.
All projects come supplied with a complete controls data pack compiled on an AutoCAD compatible software package called Eplan. This documentation would include all general arrangement and schematic circuit drawings, recommended spares lists, maintenance manuals and equipment specifications.
Our mechanical manufacturing process is NC based, with all designs done in AutoCAD 3D format.
In addition, all machined components are measured for dimensional confirmation on a SMX laser device.
As machining is completed it is verified with the SMX, which in turn is linked back to AutoCAD for automatic corrections and updates.
We are listed under the quality standards of ISO 9000 and VDA 6.
