Company ProfileWe are a consultancy specialising in the design of mining and industrial control systems involving the application of variable speed drives.General control and instrumentation projects are also undertaken with an emphasis on materials handling in the mining industry. Power quality surveys related to the use of variable speed drives in indusry are offered and solutions are recommended. The comany also offers products for power quality improvement and precision speed control and synchronising of motors controlled by variable speed drives. Consulting & System Design Services offered

Power Quality Products A variable speed drive will generate unwanted harmonics when connected to any power supply system. When harmonics are present in an electrical system the result is a poor power factor and thus higher electricity costs and inefficient use of power equipment such as transformers and alternators. MTE Corporation offers a range of line reactors and harmonic filters, which, when installed between the supply and a variable speed drive, can reduce the harmonics generated and thus improve the power factor of an installation. This will result in considerable cost saving on electricity and longer life of expensive equipment such as motors and variable speed drives. In an AC variable speed drive application the effect of long motor cables lengths can be very harmful to the motor. Switching spikes generated in the drive are accentuated by the capacitance of the motor cable. These spikes can be greatly reduced by the use of output chokes, dv/dt filters and sine wave filters.
