SPLIT SHAFT SEALS INCREASE DRYER EFFICIENCY
21 February, 2006, GEORGETOWN, MAINE: MECO custom-engineered shaft seals have been proven to reduce vacuum dryer cycle times by up to 50% by effectively holding the vacuum. All MECO seals are custom-designed and manufactured to individual applications. In dryer applications, MECO's patented Mechanical Drive system is frequently used to accommodate the significant thermal shaft growth and pressure-vacuum cycles common in this equipment. MECO incorporates 6mm or more of total runout/misalignment capacity into all of its seal designs. Seals will also accommodate significant radial shock loads. MECO seals are available fully-split to simplify and speed installation and maintenance without disturbing the bearing or drive assembly. Air- or gas-purged seal models consume near zero cfm of purge medium.
The seal face pressures are user-adjustable through a simple mechanism. Unlike traditional mechanical seals, MECO seal faces are soft, fault-tolerant and almost impossible to break.
