EFFICIENT EARTH LEAKAGE PROTECTION

EFFICIENT EARTH LEAKAGE PROTECTION

Product News Sunday, May 31, 2015: NewElec (Pty) Ltd

NewElec’s Earth Leakage Relays are becoming the preferred earth leakage protection device for all industries. The move towards this preferred device can be attributed to its original design criteria that included harmonic filters to suppress nuisance trip conditions on starting higher kW motors on DOL. The original design permitted users to select either instantaneous or inverse tripping curves easily on the relay itself while still using the same earth leakage core balance sensing current transformer. This design is still the backbone of the now popular GA range of relays

The GA is available in diverse configuration options, including latched or with a non-latching main trip contact, fail-safe or non fail-safe options, as well as 110 V – 220 V or 380 V – 525 V AC auxiliary supply voltages. The trip contact current rating is 6 A at 220 V and 3 A at 525 V AC. A latched 'contactor trip' change-over contact can also be as an added safety feature, optionally reset by pressing the control panel mounted push-button.

Sensitivities range from 30 mA to 1 000 mA with user-selectable instantaneous or IDMT curve selection while using the same earth leakage core.  Two models are offered: the GA with a standard 74 mm x 134 mm cut-out; and the GA-ELX with an adaptor plate to fit a 71 mm x 94 mm cut-out.

GA relays provide harmonic suppression and isolation to IEC 255-5 App A. As a door mounted unit, the front control panel clearly displays, by means of suitably coloured LEDs, the user selected  tripping curve , as well as the relay trip status.
