Dymot Endless Rope Winch Systems help create a world class gantry at BP Watloo.

Dymot Endless Rope Winch Systems help create a world class gantry at BP Watloo.

Product News Monday, March 6, 2017: Dymot Engineering Co. (Pty) Ltd.

Dymot Engineering Company supplied three rail tank car shunting winch systems which successfully move rail tank cars on three separate tracks up and down the gantry at the BP Fuel Depot in Watloo.

These winches were designed, manufactured, tested and commissioned by Dymot and have performed above the requirements of the client.

Each winch was powered by a 55kW, 3 Phase Electric Motor and was able to pull a load of 220kN.

The winch is a “Bull Wheel” type endless rope winch and is designed to start direct-on-line forward or reverse, whether loaded or unloaded.

It operates in conjunction with a return sheave and uses friction and tension to move a bogey car up and down the track. The friction emanates from the rope angle of wrap around the bull wheels of the winch and the tension comes from the 3 ton counterweight which keeps tension on the rope. The winch can be operated from operator control stations in the overhead gantries as well as from the Remote Control Unit situated at the winches.

The advantage of this system is that the rail tank cars can be moved anywhere on the track without the need for a locomotive. Dymot has supplied similar systems to Shell, Tarlton, Foskor and Sasol.

This concept can also be adapted for smaller trolley/loads that need to be repositioned forwards or backwards. It is also widely used in the materials handling industry especially on the positioning of tripper conveyors. Dymot can provide you with the expertise to solve your shuttling of equipment.

Dymot is involved with the majority of Mining Projects and have products in more than 40 countries.
