PMSA ensures that certified concrete is manufactured onsite in record time
Product News Tuesday, May 10, 2011: Pan Mixers South Africa
Contractors can produce the highest-quality concrete onsite with a new range of concrete batching vehicles, distributed exclusively through Pan Mixers South Africa (PMSA) – the leading manufacturer of concrete block, brick and paving machinery in Africa.
World-class quality concrete is now more easily-accessible to South African contractors on remote locations, as PMSA introduces the Fiori concrete batching vehicle (CBV), an upgraded version of the highly-popular Fiori self-loading mixer, to the local market.
The Fiori self-loading mixer is gaining popularity with its state-of-the-art onboard weighing system, which gives contractors the ability to deliver recordable concrete batches in rural areas where fixed batching plants are not available, explains PMSA director Walter Ebeling. He points out that the new Fiori CBV range now offers increased accuracy and flexibility in the production of certified concrete.
“New technology developed by Fiori has resulted in the CBV being the only mixer in the world capable of producing certified concrete on remote and isolated sites in faster production times, thanks to an advanced weighing system and a state-of-the-art controller, which calculates the precise weight of the aggregates being loaded,” he explains.
Ebeling points out that this new technology can save up to one minute per batch produced, compared to the previous generation weighing system, which relied on the loading bucket being lifted to a predetermined position in order to calculate the weight accurately. “The new technology provides the operator with an accurate reading, while the bucket is being lifted to the mixer loading chute, ultimately saving a significant amount of time during the production cycle.”
What’s more, Ebeling notes that the Fiori CBV comes standard with a USB port, which enables all records of batched concrete to be electronically-retrieved. “Fiori has developed a system whereby the operator is provided with a comprehensive overview of what is required for the production cycle. If the incorrect amount aggregate is added, a warning light will come on and an alarm will sound to notify the operator. If the operator still loads the incorrect amount in the mixer, an error report will be printed for that batch,” he continues.
PMSA provides full training and servicing to all clients and, to date, the company has sold a total of 24 Fiori CBVs nationwide. Specialist onsite readymix supplier Witkop Vervoer purchased four Fiori DB460 model CBVs from PMSA, which are currently being used onsite at remote locations nationwide. General manager Donovan Collins notes that the overall product offering of the machine is unrivalled.
“The Fiori CBVs outperform all competitor products in terms of accuracy, reliability and cost-effectiveness. In addition to producing world-class certified concrete, the rugged 4X4 design of the DB460 enables it to reach the most hostile locations with ease,” he explains. “This has enabled Witkop to become more competitive in terms of pricing and customer service, as the company can manufacture the required concrete onsite on demand, regardless of time or location.”
Ebeling adds that the Fiori CBV is extremely manoeuvrable, thanks to three steering mechanisms, namely; standard front wheel for moving forward; crab steering for moving sideways; and pinch steering to turn sharp corners.
What’s more, Collins points out that the drum on the DB460 does not discharge like a readymix truck, as it sits in a cradle and is capable of rotating 270 degrees; thereby, ensuring that concrete is more accurately placed.
Ebeling notes that slump remains one of the biggest challenges in concrete manufacturing. “Producing low or high slump concrete can be difficult if the raw materials are too moist. The new CBV range has a slump detection system which allows the operator to achieve a desired slump for each mix design and a concrete mixed indicator, which enables the operator to determine the exact homogenous mix.”
Looking to the future, Ebeling believes that the demand for the Fiori CBVs will continue to rise, as an increasing number of contractors are required to produce certified concrete before being awarded work on a project. “Fiori has consistently remained at the forefront of technological innovation, and the self-loading system has proven to be an invaluable tool in manufacturing the highest-quality concrete, which is becoming an increasingly-important prerequisite in modern building and construction,” he concludes.
