New technology provides ALL-in-one solutions package for floor grinding

Product News Monday, September 19, 2011: Pan Mixers South Africa

Pan Mixers South Africa (PMSA) continues to cement its place in the supply of concrete equipment, solutions and technology, after launching an advanced HTC Automatic Laser Levelling (ALL) system through Superb Flooring Systems in August 2011, in order to assist local contractors in significantly improving the accuracy of their concrete floor grinding capabilities.

PMSA, through Superb Flooring Systems, is the exclusive distributor of Swedish-manufactured HTC grinding equipment, and HTC Superfloor polished concrete – a fast-growing floor style in South Africa, which involves mechanically refining a concrete surface by removing the top concrete paste and exposing the underlying aggregate and concrete matrix, before the underlying concrete is ground and polished to a completely smooth and shining surface.

HTC Superfloor specialist Tomas Torvaldsson points out that the HTC ALL system is specifically designed for the heavy duty HTC 950 RX floor grinder, and consists of a rotation laser and a mounted receiver, which automatically controls the machine during the grinding process; thereby, ensuring that the floor surfaces are ground to an accuracy level of up to FM1 and CAT1 flooring.

“The HTC ALL system is ideally suited to warehousing applications with high bay storage facilities, where forklifts are required to raise stock to high levels,” he explains. Only the slightest inconsistency at ground level can have significant consequences for the operation, as an uneven surface may cause the vehicle to tip, or stock may be packaged unevenly; thereby, causing safety hazards for employees.

“The HTC ALL system ensures that the highest international standards of level flooring can be achieved through a simplified process, which involves the operator finding the lowest point of the floor using the laser. From there, the grinding machine will be set in the desired starting point, and the rotation laser will be set to the desired level, in order to achieve a perfectly level floor,” Torvaldsson explains.

In addition to pinpoint accuracy, the HTC ALL system is also environmentally-friendly, as it eliminates the need for top coating on the surface. The HTC ALL system is connected to the radio-controlled HTC 950 RX floor grinder, together with dust extractors that enables work to be carried out more safely and efficiently, while the gathered dust can be easily disposed of from specialised bags,” Torvaldsson continues.

Sales Manager for Superb Flooring Systems Andreas Hasselmose notes that typical clients and contractors for the HTC ALL system are those who specialise in floor grinding for warehousing and high accuracy floor finishing for fabrication workshops. “The HTC ALL system is a highly specialised device that will appeal to a niche market; however, that market has enormous potential, especially in prime industrial areas such as Gauteng, where warehouses are being built higher, as floor space becomes increasingly limited.”

The HTC ALL system has gained popularity particularly in emerging economies in Asia over the past five years, and Torvaldsson is confident that the product can achieve the same success in Africa. He does; however, admit that HTC and PMSA will face challenges.

“Market education is the most important aspect in promoting the HTC ALL system. A number of local contractors are currently not aware of the benefits of level floors in industrial applications, with regards to operational efficiency, worker safety and environmental sustainability,” Hasselmose adds.  “By taking a hands-on approach with product demonstrations, HTC and PMSA aim to change the mindset of the industry in the short-term future.”

PMSA marketing and sales manager Quintin Booysen notes that PMSA offers full training on the system. “Clients who purchase the HTC ALL system are provided with full training, in order to ensure that they receive the best results possible when putting it into operation. This training forms part of PMSA’s value-added service, and ensures that clients are always operating at maximum efficiency.”

Booysen points out that the introduction of the HTC ALL system ensures that PMSA offers its clients a comprehensive concrete floor preparation solutions offering, which also includes a broad range of HTC grinding machines, in addition to a wide variety of environmentally-friendly HTC Twister floor pads - which make use of cleaning and polishing discs coated with microscopic diamonds, using only water, as opposed to toxic chemical detergents, when maintaining and cleaning floor surfaces.

“PMSA is committed to becoming recognised as a preferred supplier of the latest concrete equipment and technology and, by investing in the full HTC range of concrete floor preparation solutions, the company is ensuring that its customers benefit from a comprehensive product offering, which is backed up by expert after sales support and service,” he concludes.
