WEIR MINERALS LAUNCHES FIRST SERVICE CENTRE IN GERMANY
Company News Monday, January 16, 2012: Weir Minerals Africa
Weir Minerals has launched a new supply and servicing base in Essen, Germany, to support its growing customer base across Central Europe.
The company has supplied mining equipment including pumps, valves and filtration systems to the German market for more than 30 years, and the new 600 sq m facility will provide a permanent servicing and supply base to enhance after-sales support.
A team of Weir Minerals service technicians will be based at the centre, allowing larger repairs and maintenance to be carried out nearby in Germany.
Local availability of parts and labour will mean faster turnaround of repairs and enable customer-specific regular service programmes, maximising mean-time between failures and ensuring minimum downtime when replacements are needed.
The location was chosen because of its proximity to many of Weir Minerals’ key clients – including ThyssenKrupp, Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann and Rheinkalk, Sims and a number of other important customers. All have active operations within a 30-mile radius.
Along with Weir Minerals’ existing German sales office in Heilbronn – Lise-Meitner-Strasse 12, 74074 Heilbronn – the facility will serve as a base for Weir Minerals’ team of mobile engineers which supports customers across the country and beyond.
Tony G Locke, Managing Director of Weir Minerals Europe, said: “This is a landmark move for Weir Minerals’ business in Germany and an important step towards achieving our target of expanding our service support provision for clients across Central Europe.
We have been serving customers across the region since 1977 and have recently achieved significant growth in our customer base. This investment is a key part of our strategy to cement and develop these relationships by further increasing the level of support we provide on the ground.
The new engineering facility will further improve our response speed for reactive repair work and also improve the efficiency of the managed maintenance services.
We have looked carefully at the applications and market sectors we serve in the territory so that we can strategically manage stock levels to ensure all of our customers’ demands can be met quickly.
Ultimately, a presence on the ground will allow us to get closer to our clients and this is a key part of our strategy to embed our relationships with clients and the new service centre will allow us to do this.”
An official opening ceremony for the centre will take place on September 6 when clients and media will be taken on a tour of the new service centre.
Weir Minerals Europe delivers end-to-end solutions for all mining, transportation, milling, processing and waste management processes across a range of industries and in over 30 different territories.
