Commercial Vehicle Concentric Slave Cylinders

Commercial Vehicle Concentric Slave Cylinders

Company News Monday, March 17, 2014: Top Class Automotive

FTE automotive is a leading international manufacturer of brake and clutch systems for commercial vehicles. With more than six decades of development and production experience, the brand has earned a reputation for producing quality components to keep a vehicle safer and on the road for a longer period of time.

n this issue of aBr MOVE, we focus on FTE automotive concentric slave cylinders for commercial vehicles - the heart of a clutch system. Positioned directly around the drive shaft and on the clutch, it is subject to extreme loads with each gear shifting process. Inferior quality products cannot withstand the extreme loads and have a limited lifespan. This is the case with commercial vehicles in particular – because a commercial vehicle can only earn money when it is on the road.

If the concentric slave cylinder is not replaced when the clutch is repaired, this can have consequences. Not only are additional costs incurred as a result of needing additional repairs, revenue is lost due to the associated downtime.

This is why Topclass Automotive recommends replacing the concentric slave cylinder with an FTE automotive concentric slave cylinder every time the clutch is repaired.

For light and heavy commercial vehicles, FTE automotive offers various concentric slave cylinders made from plastic, aluminium or cast iron. Depending on the design type, these are suitable for hydraulic systems activated either by mineral oil or brake fluid.

The concentric slave cylinder has an operating pressure of up to 40 bar. To gain more space, it is designed in two parts and is equipped with a steel guide sleeve. This enables small axial and radial sizes.

The sensor is screwed securely onto the housing; the magnet is seated in a plastic carrier, which can be moved axially by the bearing without play. Brake fluid is used as the operating medium.

The piston has a stroke limit on the guide sleeve so that the clutch cannot be subject to excessive pressure in the event of “false triggering” of the automatic actuation mechanism. The radial shaft sealing ring is preassembled on the guide sleeve. The transmission cover is integrated in the connecting pieces of the concentric slave cylinder.

FTE automotive also offers a dual concentric slave cylinder that works like a conventional concentric slave cylinder, but with two concentric pistons. Independently of each other, the pistons actuate each one of the radial clutches, via the extremely space-saving bearing design. Unlike the standard clutch, actuation creates disengagement of driveline, i.e. the clutch is closed, in order to transfer torque.

Advantages of using an FTE
concentric slave cylinder
• Less moving parts, less parts to fail
• Less area required inside bell-housing
• Lighter pedal pressures allowing a more comfortable drive
• Self-adjusting system prolonging the life of your clutch
