MANITOU – THE FARMER’S AGILE ALLY
Eat. That is all the 100 000 head of cattle do all day and all night at Karan Beef’s feedlot just outside Heidelberg, Gauteng. This means that the team at Karan need to operate effectively and quickly in order to prepare almost 900 tons of feed every day.
For this task, only the best, most dependable, most efficient machinery can be used. The feeding process continues seven days per week, 365 days per year. No machine may ever break down, as the idea of 100 000 hungry, bellowing cattle is too ghastly to contemplate.
Efficiency and reliability is the reason that Karan uses Manitou machines for feed handling. From handling and moving bulk bags, building materials, soil, manure, to fertilizer and feed, Manitou offers the perfect solution.
Charles Brown of Karan Beef says he really doesn’t know how they would have been able to feed all the cattle without Manitou. When he joined Karan eight years ago, they already used Manitou for feed handling, and today he is still astonished by the power, capability and dexterity of these machines.
One Manitou works in the fields to load and unload bales and to neatly stack them. It moves nimbly over rough terrain, easily lifts 2,7 tons 5,5 metres high and extends 3,2 metres forward to reach any spot on any trailer or stack of bales.
Another Manitou machine works at Karan’s feed mill to unload bales from trailers, to stack them in the yard and to feed the ever-hungry feed mixers.
Despite its enormous capacity for work, the Manitou’s body is small enough to reach every corner in any shed or feed mill. In addition, its rear wheels turn left when you steer right, thereby restricting its turning circle to a mere 3,7 metres. The machine is also easy to operate and manoeuvre, with one power steering and one control arm.
The Manitou is not affected by the dust generated by the feed mill because the machine’s effective filters keep its insides absolutely clean. This is aided by the fact that its fans are designed to blow up into the air, thereby not whirling up dust from the floor.
Karan’s team has so much confidence in Manitou that it does not keep a spare machine.
Moreover, Manitou’s unfaltering reliability enjoys the solid backing of a team of wide awake experts who provide only the best training and after sales service.
The only time when an injector pump showed signs of stuttering, Manitou’s people promptly fixed it before a single head of cattle could miss a single mouthful of feed.
Manitou is the machine for the future, says Brown, and Karan Beef’s 100 000 head of cattle fully agree.
