MG200 Series heat exchangers
Wednesday, July 29, 2009: Bearing Man Group (BMG)
BMG Hydraulics, the new specialist hydraulics division of BMG - Bearing Man Group – provides a comprehensive range of quality branded products, supported by a reliable solutions-based service throughout Southern Africa.
“Included in the BMG Hydraulics product portfolio are Emmegi air-to-oil heat exchangers, designed for cooling hydraulic oil and other fluids that have to function continuously in harsh conditions,” says Greg Lester, managing director of BMG Hydraulics. “These heat exchangers can also be used for mobile hydraulic applications, like earthmoving equipment, compressors, machine tools, injection presses and agricultural machinery.
“The operating principle of these MG 200 series air-oil heat exchangers is based on using coolant and ambient air that passes over the radiant, by means of a fan operated by an electric or hydraulic motor.
“The configuration of cooling ducts of the exchanger element increases the turbulence of the fluid, thus improving the exchange capacity. Special jets on the cooler fins further improve the total transmission co-efficient.”
The cooler element of these robust heat exchangers is manufactured from a high resistance aluminium alloy. This bronze welding manufacturing process, carried out under vacuum, ensures efficient operation, low maintenance and extended service life.
The cooler element has an operating pressure of 20 bar, a test pressure of 35 bar and a maximum operating temperature of 120°C. Emmegi air-oil heat exchangers are compatible with fluids that include mineral oils, HL and HLP, as well as water-oil emulsions and water-glycol. These units, which are usually installed on the oil tank return piping, should be fitted in a horizontal position to ensure a natural flow of cooling air.
Heat exchangers should be connected to the plant with flexible pipes and must be protected from impacts and mechanical vibrations by supports. These exchangers should never be subjected to sudden changes in flow, hammering or pulsations that can cause irreversible damage to the element.
It is recommended that a by-pass valve be installed to protect the exchanger from over pressure generated due to high oil viscosity when the plant is started up.
Other products available from BMG Hydraulics include variable and fixed displacement pumps, industrial and mobile valves, accumulators, low and high speed motors, as well as cylinders. BMG Hydraulics offers a complete turnkey project capability on all hydraulic systems.
