Tensile Testing

Tensile Testing is a destructive test used to determine the tensile strength of a material. Typically, the material is machined into a "dogbone" sample. A tensile force is applied to the dogbone and the force at failure, as well as the elastic elongation of the sample is noted. Tensile testing is commonly used in manufacturing process control and material validation.
