Ruspet extends African experience with DRC projects

Ruspet extends African experience with DRC projects

Company News Friday, September 9, 2016: Ruspet cc

Ruspet Exhausts has completed various industrial projects in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), predominantly for large-scale mining operations.

Mutanda Mine

In the Kutanga Province of the DRC, Ruspet partnered with Amalgamated Power Solutions (APS) on a project for Mutanda Mine, an open-pit copper mine operated by Glencore International.

APS designed and built the power plant for this mine, and Ruspet was responsible for building the five exhaust kits for the CAT 3516 Generators that power the mine.

The remote location of the mine requires that robust, high quality, reliable power generators be installed. The timing for the installation of the generator exhausts supplied by Ruspet was critical to ensure mine production was not disrupted.

Under intense time pressure, Ruspet was able to meet all deadlines while fulfilling the client’s requirements. The customer was extremely satisfied with the speed of delivery and the quality of the generator exhaust systems that Ruspet designed, delivered and installed.

Kinsenda Mine

The Kinsenda Mine is situated near the town of Kasumbalesa on the border of the DRC and Zambia and is operated by Metorex (owned by Jinchuan Group International Resources Co.). It ranks as one of the world’s highest grade copper deposits, with declared mineral resources of 20.7 million tonnes at a grade of 5.6% copper.

Ruspet Exhausts once again partnered with APS, the company responsible for designing and building the mine’s power plant. Ruspet was contracted to build the silencers for the generator power plant, which makes use of four 2500KVA Cummins engines.

Ruspet designed, manufactured, delivered and installed the generator exhaust systems. The design was required to meet the mine’s stringent specifications.

Working in the DRC

Russell Cockburn, founder and MD of Ruspet Exhausts, believes that the company’s successful delivery of projects beyond South Africa’s borders, and specifically in the DRC, demonstrates Ruspet’s international capabilities.

“Working in remote areas of the DRC is challenging,” he says, “It requires careful planning, a thorough understanding of the client’s requirements and time frames, and a commitment to finding workable solutions despite the challenges of isolated locations, cross-border operation and time-sensitive project delivery. These sorts of projects stretch us, but they show that Ruspet is able to operate successfully throughout the African continent, and to provide industrial exhaust solutions for both local and international clientele.”
