Axial Compressors

An axial compressor is a vaned-type compressor in which stationary and rotating blade rows are used to move a fluid in an axial direction aligned with the shaft of rotation. In an axial compressor, the fluid is decelerated as it moves through the blade rows, resulting in a large increase in pressure at the compressor exit. Axial compressors may contain one or more stages of stationary and rotating blade rows depending on the operating conditions, the desired pressure rise, and the required performance characteristics such as efficiency.
