Process Plant Technology (Pty) Ltd
Solids-Liquid Separation
Solids – Liquid Separation is a vital unit operation throughout the chemical industry and Process Plant Technology has particular strength in selecting appropriate equipment and system development. This is a key unit operation for removing crystals or sludges from process concentrates in a low moisture form.
Where large crystals are produced, centrifuges are normally used. We have experience with two stage pusher, worm or scroll-screen, decanter, screen bowl decanter and basket type peeler units. Centrifuges are usually manufactured from metallic parts due to the high mechanical stresses involved, however must withstand the often highly corrosive nature of the processes encountered. This requires selecting expensive alloy based materials to resist corrosion. We have supplied centrifuges manufactured in 316L, 904L, High Moly stainless steel,
Monel, SAF2205 and Hastelloy as well as other corrosion resisting steels.
Where the solids are likely to be very fine, unpredictable in size, or have properties nullifying the use of a centrifuge, filter presses are employed. Although filter presses are usually lower capital cost, this batch type equipment does require a different set of operational skills. Our experience includes pressure leaf, disc and drum filters, belt filters, filter presses, membrane presses, screw presses, roll presses, sewage dewatering and belt presses.
The company has no exclusive centrifuge or filter alignment, preferring to utilise our own experience to select the most effective unit from the many vendors with whom we maintain regular contact.
