Chromium
A steel-gray, lustrous, hard and brittle metallic element that takes its name from the Greek word for color--chrome--because of the brilliant colors of its compounds. It is found primarily in chromite. Resistant to tarnish and corrosion, it is a primary component of stainless steel and is used to harden steel alloys.
