Couplings are mechanical fasteners, usually used to join two pieces of a shaft together for the purpose of driving rotating equipment.
Couplings require tight geometric tolerances in order to achieve a close fit and proper shaft alignment. There are many different coupling designs including rigid flange couplings, torque limiting couplings, and flexible couplings.
