Flowmeters : Orifice Flowmeter

A flowmeter is an instrumentation device used to measure and record the flow rate of a gas or fluid. An orifice flowmeter is designed such that the flow being measured is forced through a hole, or orifice, in a plate. The hole is designed to constrict and the pressure is measured both upstream and downstream of the hole. Knowing the inlet and exit are of the orifice and the inlet and exit pressures, the flowmeter is able to determine the flow rate.
